OBGYN In Office Procedures are offered at Florida Woman Care of Jacksonville without the need for hospitalization and in a comfortable and familiar location. Many of these procedures allow you to regain normal activities the very next day.
Endometrial ablation is a procedure that eliminates the lining of the uterus in order to treat abnormal uterine bleeding. Florida Woman Care of Jacksonville uses the Novasure procedure. In a Novasure endometrial ablation, a speculum is inserted into the vagina to expose the cervix. A paracervical block injection is performed to numb the area. Once the cervix has been numbed, the Novasure device is inserted through the cervix and into the uterus. Once fully inserted, a netting expands to contact the endometrium. Radiofrequency energy is delivered to the tissue, which destroys the endometrium of the uterus, the tissue responsible for heavy bleeding. The netting and device are then removed. Due to the destruction of the endometrium, pregnancy should never be allowed to occur after an endometrial ablation as it could be life-threatening.
Essure Permanent Sterilization
Essure permanent sterilization is another in-office procedure offered. It is an alternative to having your “tubes tied” and offers a much quicker recovery since it requires no incisions. It is performed with a local anesthetic numbing the cervix and with oral sedation if desired by the patient. During the procedure, a slender camera is passed through the cervical canal and into the uterine cavity to identify the tubal openings. A small coil is then passed into each tube. This causes the tubes to become blocked over the next several months.
Hysteroscopies may also be performed in-office in order to assess menstrual bleeding abnormalities and to remove fibroids and polyps from the uterus. During the procedure, a speculum is inserted into the vagina and the cervix is numbed. The slender hysteroscope is then passed through the cervical canal into the uterine cavity to identify any abnormalities. If fibroids or polyps are seen, they can often be removed by passing small instruments through the hysteroscope.
The loop electrosurgical excision procedure, or LEEP, may also be performed in-office. This procedure is used to remove precancerous cells from the cervix. During a LEEP, a speculum is inserted into the vagina and the cervix is exposed and numbed. Once the suspicious area has been sterilized, a small wire loop is used to remove the pre-cancerous areas. The tissue sample is then sent to the lab for testing.
Ultrasounds can be performed in the convenience of our office with the expertise of your own doctor reviewing it as it is performed. An ultrasound may be used during pregnancy in order to track the progress of the baby, or it may be used on patients with pelvic conditions that may require visualization of the pelvic organs. Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves in order to produce an image of an object. Ultrasounds can be performed abdominally or transvaginally. During an abdominal ultrasound, a gel is applied to the skin and a probe is placed on the abdomen. This gel enables the probe to better transmit sound waves as well as allowing the probe to move freely. The gel is cleaned off after the procedure is over. During a transvaginal ultrasound, a slender probe is passed into the vagina to allow for a more detailed and improved view of the uterus, ovaries, and other pelvic structures.
Pelvic Floor Therapy
Pelvic floor therapy is performed in the convenience of our office. Pelvic floor therapy is used to treat urinary incontinence, stool incontinence, prolapse of the bladder and rectum, pelvic pain and painful sex. During pelvic floor therapy, problem areas are assessed and exercises will be performed in order to improve pelvic support, muscle tone and to reduce pain.
